Gen.G exceeded all expectations at their first LAN, DreamHack Open Anaheim, where they swept their group with victories over ENCE and Complexity. The North American side then moved on to the playoffs and once again swept opposition beating North and FURIA in two-map series to be crowned champions and secure a spot at the upcoming DreamHack Masters Jönköping.
The final kicked off on Nuke, FURIA’s pick, but it was Gen.G who won the first pistol round on the CT side to set the pace with doubles by Kenneth "koosta" Suen and Sam "s0m" Oh. A successful A hit put FURIA on the board after which the Brazilians were quick to tie it up, 3-3. The North American squad took control of the half with clutches by s0m and Timothy "autimatic" Ta giving up just two more rounds for a 10-5 partial score.
Gen.G won a 4vs2 afterplant situation in the second pistol and went on to increase their lead 13-5 before FURIA could reply to stay alive in their map pick. Both teams traded rounds but a 1vs4 clutch by koosta that put his team on match point proved to be enough as the Brazilians were unable to retaliate as Gen.G won the following round to close out map one, 16-7.
Three kills in an aggressive mid play on Inferno by Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato put FURIA up 1-0, but a plant gave Gen.G enough money to buy the following round and tie it up, 1-1. An early dominating display by s0m put his side up 3-1 before the two teams traded rounds before the North American side then started to snowball with the economic advantage to win the half 10-5 as FURIA could only pepper loose rounds.
FURIA bridged the gap on the attacking side, winning the pistol round and following it up, but they were upset by pistol doubles by s0m in B and koosta on A in the third round of the second half. Yuri "yuurih" Santos then won a 1vs2 to keep his team alive, but a huge three kill round by Hansel "BnTeT" Ferdinand kept Gen.G ahead 12-10 heading into the last stretch of the map.
FURIA started to find openings in the defenses and down 13-15 Vinicius "VINI" Figueiredo was able to win a 1vs2 afterplant on A to secure a thirtieth round and push it to overtime, but Gen.G smashed FURIA 3-0 on the CT side before closing out map and match, 19-15.
